Identifying Your Parent’s Needs
If a parent or loved one is finding everyday movement harder, or doing less than they used to, Summit Strong may help them rebuild strength and confidence. Here's how to start the conversation.
Quick Steps You Can Take Today:
Notice if they find walking, standing up from a chair, or keeping their balance harder than before.
Talk with them gently about how they're feeling and what they'd like to keep doing.
Encourage regular, gentle movement and staying socially connected day to day.
Speak with their GP, who can refer them to Summit Strong if it's a good fit.

FAQs

Summit Strong supports ACT residents aged 65 and over (and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 and over) who are becoming less steady, less active, or less confident than they used to be. If staying strong and independent at home matters to you, it may be a good fit.

Summit Strong is available by GP referral. If you think the program could help you or someone you care for, talk to your GP or allied health professional — they can refer you if you're eligible. There's no cost to take part.

Over 12 weeks you'll have a personal assessment with a physiotherapist, weekly one-on-one sessions with an allied health assistant, and group exercise sessions you join from home. Support from a dietitian and social worker is there if you need it.

That's completely fine, and very common. Our team will help you get set up for the group sessions and show you exactly what to do. You don't need any prior experience — just a phone, tablet or computer, and we'll guide you through the rest.

No. Summit Strong is fully funded, so there's no cost to eligible participants.

The best first step is to speak with your GP and ask about a referral to Summit Strong — they can talk through whether it's right for you. Not sure if it's a fit? You can take our FRAIL quiz to learn more, or contact our Care Team on 1300 315 315 and we'll help point you in the right direction.
